Noise may be transmitted not only directly through the walls or via the air, but also via adjacent building components, e.g. pipes, gaps or hollow spaces in floors or ceilings. These ways of transmission are called flanking paths.
Foam
Foams are man-made materials with low density and a cellular structure. They are produced by foaming synthetic base materials with the aid of blowing agents.
Frequency
Frequency is the number of oscillations/pressure variations in a given time period. The unit of frequency is Hertz (Hz), where 1 Hz corresponds to one oscillation cycle per second. The human ear can perceive frequencies between 16 and 20,000 Hz. A low tone is produced by slowly oscillating sound waves. The faster the oscillations, the higher the sound perceived.
